I learned that the values in the Framework model of the European Council (EC) form the foundation of democratic competence and are essential for any political competence to be considered \u201cdemocratic\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the EC, \u201can&nbsp;<strong>attitude<\/strong>&nbsp;is the overall mental orientation which an individual adopts towards someone or something (for example a person, a group, an institution, an issue, an event, a symbol).\u201d Attitudes usually consist of&nbsp;<em>four components<\/em>: a&nbsp;<strong>Belief<\/strong>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<strong>Opinion<\/strong>&nbsp;about \u201csomething or someone\u201d we are facing, an&nbsp;<strong>Emotion<\/strong>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<strong>Feeling<\/strong>&nbsp;towards it, the&nbsp;<strong>Evaluation<\/strong>&nbsp;(either positive or negative) of it, and&nbsp;<strong>a particular way of Behaviour<\/strong>&nbsp;towards that object or person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It seems that all attitudes start with a belief, like \u201cdemocrats are communists\u201d or \u201cTrump followers are stupid\u201d, \u201cwomen can\u2019t drive\u201d. As a result of any belief, there is an emotion (perhaps fear, or anger).
